THE FUTURE OF HUMANITY No. 1: Is There an Action That Is Not Touched by Thought? Q: What is the future of man? All the problems that humanity has now psychologically and in other ways are the result of thought. We are pursuing the same pattern of thought and thought will never solve any of these problems. The whole structure of the me is put together by thought. The me is my consciousness which is my name, form, all the various experiences. Is consciousness individual or is there one inseparable consciousness of mankind? Whatever action is born of limited thought must inevitably breed conflict. Dividing humanity geographically, religiously, and so on, has created havoc in the world. The me is a divisive entity. Why is there this division? Am I concerned with my very limited self or with the future of mankind? |

THE FUTURE OF HUMANITY No. 2: Is There Evolution of Consciousness? Can the consciousness of mankind be changed through time? Is not the brain conditioned physically, chemically? Isn't psychological conditioning centred in the self? The conditioning which determines the self is creating great damage. Can conditioned brain cells change? As long as the brain is conditioned its relationship to the mind is limited. When it is not conditioned is the brain the instrument of the mind? If the brain is quiet is it related to the mind? Is intelligence different from perception? Isn't the action of perception itself intelligence? |

What Will Bring About Change in the Brain? Q: Is there an outside agency that will bring change in the brain cells? There is only thought not Eastern or Western thought. How does culture come into being? What do we mean by the word culture? Is it the training and refinement of the brain? Is culture that which is contained in the brain cells? Man has lived on this earth for a million years and we are as primitive now as we were before. Is culture preventing change? What will make human beings bring about a radical mutation in themselves? |

Why Are We Frightened To be Nothing? Q: Is there a movement which is not of time which is eternal? The brain is conditioned by time and thought. How do you come into contact with this fact? As long as that conditioning remains insight is not possible. You may have occasional insight into something, but pure insight is the perception of completeness. That insight is not of time and thought. The psyche is a bundle of dead memories. I am a movement of memories. If I have an insight into that, there is nothing, I don't exist. Nothing then contains the whole universe. Compassion is nothing and that nothingness is supreme intelligence. So why are ordinary, intelligent people frightened of being nothing? |

Can You Live Without Being Programmed? How does conflict arise in us, psychologically? One feels secure in being attached to opinions, judgements. Facts need not have opinions; "what is" is a fact. It is a wastage of energy when I try to be something I am not. The pursuit of non-fact is a wastage of energy. Can you live without being programmed? There is no entity who breaks the programme. There is no attempt to break it down, there is only the fact that I observe the whole complication of being programmed. Perhaps there will be a tremendous effect if a few of us can live without conflict. If the computer can do the things that we can do, then what is going to happen to us? Either you pursue entertainment or you totally turn in a different direction. |

Supreme Intelligence Is to Have No Illusions What is intelligence? There is the outside authority of a government, a policeman, a judge, the pope or a priest. But inwardly, inside the skin there is the authority of one's own experience, one's convictions, opinions. Do you accept that authority? How do you look at things without authority? Now we are going to question, not say it is right or wrong, but enquire, doubt, ask. In enquiring very carefully step by step you will begin to awaken your own intelligence. Where do you accept and where disregard authority? What will you do when the government asks you to become a soldier? Must we kill each other to be secure? Are ideas and ideals illusions? What do you seek security in? In some illusion? Learn the art of questioning, so that you question everything. |

Q1: How do we know what you are saying is true? Q2: Is desire fundamental? Without desire could we function at all? Q3: What do we do with our thoughts that they don't start? Q4: What is the difference between the desire to buy something and the desire to look for truth? Q5: Is there any solution to jealousy and mistrust other than isolating myself? Q6: When one understands intellectually what a habit is, how does one break free of habit? |
 |
Q1: Is awareness beyond time? Q2: What is the relationship between consciousness, mind, brain and thought? Q3: Why don't you encourage people to hold group discussions? Q4: How is one to approach the problem of livelihood? Q5: You say very little about law. Why is that? |

How Can the Brain Transform Itself? Is it possible to bring about a mutation in the very brain cells themselves conditioned for thousands of years? Either one says that it is not possible and closes the door or one says I really don't know. Without any choice am I aware that my brain is conditioned? What is the nature of conditioning? It is essentially experience and knowledge. Why is the structure of the psyche essentially based on knowledge? What am I without memory? Is it possible to live psychologically without memories? Division between memory and the observer creates conflict. |

Only in Peace Can the Human Mind Be Free Why cannot man, who has learned so much, live in peace? Are you individuals, struggling separate soul each seeking his own fulfilment? Must human beings, thinking they are separate each seeking his own form of security inevitably come into conflict with others? Even in close relationship where there is a sense of affection why is there conflict and turmoil? Can one live with another completely at peace? How do you observe your relationship with another? Can you look, observe, without any identity? Can you look at life not as a problem but with a mind that is free from problems? |

Freedom from the Self Is the movement from "what is" to "what should be" the psychological process of time one of the causes of fear? Realizing that possibility, even intellectually is it possible to end fear? Sorrow is part of the continuity of memory. Can that memory, not only of my sorrow but of mankind's sorrow come to an end? Can we, while living without any cause or future end something? If you go beyond time is there anything to experience? Can the self, the "me", the ego all the self-centred activity which is the movement of memory end? |

What Kind of Brain Is Needed for Meditation? What is creation? What is the origin of all existence? Was there a beginning and is there an end to all this? To uncover the origin what kind of brain does one need? Is there a brain without self-interest? Have we a brain that doesn't belong to anything so that it is completely free? Does language condition the brain? What is meditation, and what is order? Is meditation the feeling of complete wholeness and unity of life? Is there something not manifested that has no beginning and no end? |
