Knowing the Content of My Consciousness?

Q: Can I look at life as a whole movement?

Do I look at life fragmentarily as the physical and the emotional as good and bad? When I break it up then out of that there is disorder.

Or do I take life which is love, beauty, death, conflict, misery all together? Is it possible to look at this whole movement as a unitary process?

Can I see that fragmentation can end only when consciousness recognizes it is made up of fragments, realizes it as truly as that fire burns?

The Old Must Be Silent To Discover the New

Q: Can the mind uncondition itself totally?

The brain responds all the time to various stimuli according to its conditioning. It operates in old habits judging, evaluating, believing, discussing - angry, violent, prejudiced. We use only part of the brain and that small part is the past. Can that brain momentarily be in abeyance and not respond instantly?

Relationship means direct contact immediately in the present at the same level with the same intensity, the same passion.

To be really in relationship is to understand the structure of the past. When that is gone, relationship is new all the time. That relationship is love.

Harmony of the Mind, Heart, and Body

Q: What is a harmonious life?

One lives a life in which there is no harmony, a life of contradiction, hypocrisy, thinking one thing, doing another, saying something else. All these are indications of contradictions, imbalance.

Can I find out what it means to watch myself - the mind, the body, the heart? Is there watching without past thought coming into it?

What is the quality of such watching? It is intelligence. It is out of time.

Thinking about the Future Breeds Fear

Q: What is the whole nature of fear?

I am frightened of the future. Thinking about the future breeds fear.

Thought creates fear because it cannot find security in the future. Thought has security in time and tomorrow has no time. Can thought be quiet about the future so that time as tomorrow does not exist?

Can I live completely, wholly in today? What is it to live now? In the very understanding of thought there is silence. And where the mind is quiet there is no future, no time.

Images Prevent Relationship

Q: What is the relationship of thought to fear?

Thought springs from knowledge of the past. Knowledge is the past. Knowledge of past hurt brings fear.

I am afraid of tomorrow. I am frightened of living and of dying. Relationship comes to an end when there is hurt.

All our life is the process of becoming and not being is a fear. What is becoming? Changing images, one image for another image?

Can the brain be free of all images and therefore never be hurt? If image has gone what is relationship with another?

An innocent mind is incapable of being hurt.

Do You Say You Love Your Children?

Q: What is the responsibility of a parent?

Education as it now is makes children conform to the established pattern of society, culture. There is war. There are drugs. Education is merely cramming knowledge, not learning about the beauty of life, the extraordinary thing that lies beyond thought.

How are we going to teach our children? Is education merely to earn a livelihood?

Love means concern for another. When you plant a tree you look after it, water it, protect it. Can we change our whole way of living and be totally concerned with the child? If you loved your children do you think you would have wars?

What Is a Religious Life?

When you listen the mind is still, the body is still. The very interest is the flame that makes the mind, the body quiet. When thought is absolutely quiet there is a dimension in which the immeasurable has its own movement.

What is the relationship between the measurable and that which is not measurable? There must be a liaison, and that is intelligence.

Can there be an awareness of the body so it becomes very sensitive? The same with the heart so that it is never hurt and can never hurt another? That is innocence of the heart.

Intelligence comes into being when the mind, the heart, and the body are really harmonious. That intelligence will operate in this world morally and morality then is order which is virtue.

Is your main interest problems of economic, social, or personal relationships that you would like to solve wholly? Or is it social reformation? What is your relationship to society?

Does order depend on reorganizing society or on the way each of us acts in our relationships? Do you know what passion is?

Do we educate our children to earn a living or is education for the whole of life?

If I am concerned with the end of all wars in myself and outwardly do I demonstrate?

Being aware of disorder how can one bring order in oneself without making it mechanical and neurotic?

If you have rejected what others have said then are you not learning?

How do you find out what order is when you don't know anything about it?

Can I look at myself without distortion? Does one thought, separating itself look at various other thoughts?

Can One Look at Oneself Without Division

Can one observe the "me" non-analytically so the very observation is understanding and so go beyond oneself to find reality?

Doesn't division in observation bring conflict?

Can I understand the unconscious through dreams? If the mind is totally aware during each day by evening won't it have a clear, clean slate?

Don't we live in the past?

Doesn't analysis imply time? Can I look at myself with eyes untouched by time? Doing so, what is there then to look?

Are some images necessary and others unnecessary? When you listen with attention, are you confused?

How am I to be free of loneliness?

What Is Right Relationship?

Thought says we are related. Is that actually so?

How am I to be free of all the images I have so that the mind can observe the whole of life? Are images formed when the brain is inattentive?

What is awareness?

Where there is conflict is there relationship? What happens to your mind when you depend?

Can life function without any resistance? Isn't will assertion of the "me" as resistance?

Functioning in the field of knowledge can we be free to act without its limitation?

Can a mind that is ambitious love? Is love jealousy, pleasure, fulfilment?

Isn't the demand for pleasure the continuity of thought which separates from "what is"?

How Is One To Have Space That Is Immeasurable?

Is there freedom in which there is complete silence and therefore vast space without the resistance thought has created?

Can the thousand yesterdays of thought totally end so there is a sense of extraordinary dimension?

When thought separates itself as the thinker is there conflict? Is perception entirely different from thought?

Is intelligence personal - the result of knowledge, logic, living, experience or is it freedom from the division thought creates?

Shouldn't one understand inattention rather than try to be aware all the time?

Is there an awareness when you are asleep as during the day?
